The defender Marcos Alonso of Chelsea will sign to Barcelona before the summer transfer window ends in a few days, claims journalist Gerard Romero.

The 31-year-old has been on Barcelona’s radar for several months and is reportedly in personal agreement to transfer there. The transfer, nevertheless, had been put on hold recently as the Blaugrana dealt with player registration concerns.

Although Chelsea and the club have been in negotiations regarding a transfer, the Blues’ insistence on integrating the Spaniard in their effort to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang only dragged down the process.

However, according to Gerard Romero, arrangements will be made for Alonso to move to Camp Nou in the last days of the transfer window.

This is despite manager Xavi Hernandez’s previous hints that the team was content with its left-back options due to Alejandro Balde’s strong start to the season.

A meeting between Alonso’s agents and Mateu Alemany, the director of Barça, earlier today at the Ciutat Esportiva complex may have been a sign that a transfer is still in the works.

Thomas Tuchel, Chelsea’s manager, has frozen out Alonso, and the Blues have even signed Marc Cucurella, an ex-Barcelona prospect, from Brighton & Hove Albion to take Alonso’s position.

According to rumours, the 31-year-old passed up the opportunity to join Atletico Madrid to secure a deal with Barcelona. And if Romero’s assertions are accurate, Alonso will probably receive his desired transfer to Spotify Camp Nou soon.

Alonso has seen great success at Chelsea since joining Fiorentina in 2016. He has won the Premier League, the UEFA Champions League, and the Europa League.

Alonso has a lot of expertise, yet he occasionally makes mistakes, according to his reputation. Only time will tell if he turns out to be profitable for Barcelona. But given the current situation, he is anticipated to join the Catalans soon.
