Raphinha’s Premier League admission could help Arsenal

The Brazil international winger Raphinha has stated in the past that he began watching the Premier League during the time that Thierry Henry was scoring goals for the Gunners, therefore Arsenal may have an advantage in the competition to acquire Raphinha as a result of this information. This summer, there has been a great deal of talk around the transfer of Raphinha, and a large number of clubs are very interested in signing him.

In an interview with the Players’ Tribune from a year ago, Raphinha said, “I also followed Arsenal around the time Henry was flying there so that’s when I started watching the Premier League.” Henry was a player for Arsenal during that period.

“At that point, I started to grasp and get it into my head that this was the place where I wanted to play, where the best players were,” he said. I got the idea into my brain that I wanted to travel there someday.

In September of 2020, after Leeds had been promoted to the Premier League, Raphinha relocated to England to play for a team there. Since then, he has continuously impressed the crowd at Elland Road.

During his first season with Leeds, the 25-year-old forward contributed nine assists and six goals to the team’s total output. Moreover, during the previous campaign, even though his team was in danger of being demoted, he scored 11 goals and assisted on three others for his club.

The previous season was a disaster for Leeds, and former manager Marcelo Bielsa was largely to blame for their inability to find their groove. They didn’t clinch a spot in the premier league until the very last day of the season when they won a game in west London against Brentford by a score of 2-1.

Although Raphinha has two more years left on his contract with the Whites, it appears that he will be calling it a career before the start of the upcoming season.

Arsenal appears to be ahead of their Premier League opponents in the race to land him if he decides to remain in England, even though Barcelona has been widely connected with him. However, Spurs, Chelsea, Manchester United, and Liverpool are also said to be interested in signing him, which means that the Gunners have a difficult road ahead of them to get him to transfer to the Emirates Stadium.

Henry’s heyday at Arsenal was a period in which the club experienced a period of dominance. The former France international helped the north London club win two Premier League titles and three FA Cups during this time. Additionally, he was a member of the illustrious Arsenal Invincibles team, which was comprised of players such as Dennis Bergkamp, Patrick Vieira, and Ashley Cole, and which went the entire 2003–2004 Premier League season without suffering a single defeat.

During Henry’s time with the club, Arsenal displayed an attractive kind of football that was high-scoring, attacking, and fun to watch. And if Raphinha does decide to make the move to north London, it would be a step in the right direction for the Gunners to become the fluid and creative team that they were in the past.
